My career in the Australian Entertainment industry has spanned over 30 years from when I first performed at the ‘Logies’ at the young age of 17. Since then I have worked in theatre and television as a dancer, choreographer and presenter as well as making numerous guest appearances on a variety of popular household shows broadcast in Australia and abroad. My international choreographic credits include some of the world’s largest stadium shows such as the Sydney Olympics, the Manchester Commonwealth Games and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Having choreographed hundreds of commercials, corporate events and musicals including the Australian Productions of ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Hair’ my career has been diverse and rewarding.
During my extensive years of touring, I always came back to my home town of Melbourne and dreamed of opening a dance studio that would compare and rival the most recognised and popular studios in the world.
Following my first year as a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance, Australia” in 2008, I realised this was the perfect opportunity to make this dream a reality. I was surrounded by talented young Australian performers all striving for world-class training and industry experience to pursue a career in the dance and entertainment industry. By watching, mentoring -and critiquing - thousands of performers I had an overwhelming urge to continue to support these young adults into the dance and entertainment industry off screen.
Over the years Australia has produced some of the world’s most employable dancers and I believed that setting up a Full Time Course run by a great team, employing the best choreographers and tutors would ensure that Australian dancers continue to be known as some of the world’s most versatile performers.
Each day the Full Time Course Department strives to be better than they were the year, month, week and day before; the results are evident. We have over 10 years of graduates from our Full Time Course and I could not be prouder of their achievements.
Our graduates have been cast in numerous shows including; The Wizard of Oz, The Book of Morman, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Saturday Night Fever, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, Wicked, Grease and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. We also have numerous graduates working all over the world for the following companies: The Australian Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet New York, Disneyland Japan, Universal Studios Japan, Disneyland Paris, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Princess Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Celebrity Cruise Lines. Many of them are also recognized commercial choreographers and performers currently working within the industry.
This is a fantastic outcome for our course, and evidence that we are delivering competitive, current industry training at the Ministry.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to visit the Ministry of Dance, we would be delighted to meet you!
Until then....
Dance like nobody is watching!
